The SEND system can feel like it's written in a language you weren't taught. There's no magic wand — but there is a small team of trusted professionals with significant experience in the system, ready to support you to confidently navigate your way through it and champion the best possible outcomes for your child.
Get support →"You shouldn't have to become an expert in education law just to get the right support for your child."
Whether you're preparing for your first meeting, waiting on an assessment, or trying to make sense of an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) that's full of acronyms — it's normal to feel out of your depth. That doesn't mean you're doing anything wrong. It means the system rarely explains itself clearly, and this is the gap we can bridge so you can confidently support your child's future success.
A no-obligation phone call to talk through your situation — whatever stage you're at. There's no pressure to book anything further afterwards.
FreeBy phone only. Around 15–20 minutes.
A longer, unhurried session by video call or in person. You're the expert on your child — bring your knowledge, your questions, and any paperwork to hand, and we'll work through what matters most together.
Price on enquiry90 minutes, by video call or in person.
Going into a meeting feeling prepared makes a real difference. We'll look at what evidence matters, what to expect, and how to put your child's needs into words that get heard. Where it helps, we can attend the meeting alongside you.
Price agreed in advanceDependent on complexity and travel implications. Travel costs for in-person meetings are not included.
Many families don't realise what's actually available to them. We'll help you identify the funding streams and grants you may be entitled to for support at home, and guide you through making a strong and accurate application.
Price on enquiryReceiving a diagnosis for your child can bring relief, confusion, grief, and questions — often all at the same time. We don't believe support should end with a piece of paper. Whether you're trying to make sense of what the report actually means, work out what happens next, or just need to talk it through with someone who understands the system — or who has lived experience of navigating the “what next” — we can help you take the next steps at your own pace.
Price on enquiryOngoing one-to-one support sessions to help families build positive behaviour strategies at home, and establish consistent routines around sleep, toileting, and daily transitions. Sessions are practical, structured around your child's specific needs, and build week by week.
Price on enquiryBlock bookings: discounts are agreed in advance for weekly bookings of 10 weeks or more.
A series of sessions is usually more effective than a single one — get in touch to discuss what would work best for your situation.
Absolutely. We know the exciting progress which can be made when families are confident in using strategies every day with their child, and we will work with you to give you that confidence. We will work together to prioritise the plan for each session, ensuring there is time for questions and a progress catch-up each visit.
Price on enquiryTeaching and assessment sessions are booked as a block of five, not as single visits — building confidence takes more than one. Travel is included within Bedford Borough and charged in addition elsewhere.
The AISK — Academy of Inclusive Skills and Knowledge
Inclusion at the heart of every question you ask.
The AISK is our growing library of short, practical guides and information leaflets — written for families, in plain language, covering the topics that come up again and again. Free to read, no sign-up needed.
Explore the AISK for Families →If your child is awaiting a placement decision, on a reduced timetable, or being educated other than at school, ongoing one-to-one or small-group sessions can keep learning moving while everything else gets sorted out — combining regular teaching with assessment that genuinely informs next steps, not just paperwork.
These sessions are sometimes arranged and paid for directly by a family, and sometimes commissioned by a Local Authority as part of a child's EOTAS (Educated Other Than At School) provision. Either route is welcome — get in touch and we'll talk through what's actually needed and who's best placed to arrange it.
Talk it through →The free initial telephone consultation is a short, relaxed call — no preparation needed, and no written report afterwards. It's simply a chance to talk things through and work out what kind of support would actually help.
The comprehensive advisory session goes further: a longer, unhurried session by video call or in person. You are the expert on your child, so bring your knowledge of their strengths and the things they find difficult. You may find it useful to note down your questions, and have any paperwork from the setting to hand. Working together, we'll work through what matters most right now and talk through recommendations. We know how useful a summary is, so after the session you'll receive a written report to help you decide what to do next.
Yes. We offer a free, no-obligation initial telephone consultation of around 15–20 minutes to talk through your situation, whatever stage you are at. There's no pressure to book anything further afterwards.
A longer, unhurried conversation by video call or in person, lasting 90 minutes. You bring your knowledge of your child, your questions and any paperwork to hand, and we work through what matters most together: making sense of a funding application, preparing you for a meeting, or signposting you to other specialist support. Afterwards you receive a written summary to help you decide what to do next. If you would like someone to attend a meeting alongside you, or to take on a funding application with you, those are separate services, listed above — and we will work with you to ensure best value.
We invoice before the session and payment is by bank transfer, so the cost is settled before we meet. Prices are agreed with you before anything is booked, so you will know exactly what a session costs before you commit. Home teaching is booked as a block of five sessions in your own home, with travel included within Bedford Borough and charged in addition elsewhere. Support in meetings is agreed with you in advance, because it depends on complexity and travel. Possible sources of funding might include a grant from the Family Fund or another charitable trust, Disability Living Allowance if your child receives it, short breaks funding from your local authority, or a personal budget or direct payment where your child’s EHCP provides for one. These are starting points to look into for your own circumstances, not financial advice. If cost is a worry, say so when you get in touch.
Yes. We help you prepare for meetings — looking at what evidence matters, what to expect, and how to put your child's needs into words that get heard — and we can attend alongside you. We can also help you make sense of an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).
We are able to observe your child in their setting if the setting gives permission and this forms part of the assessment and support you are commissioning. If you have booked a block of five teaching and assessment sessions, one of the five can be held in your child's setting — again, with the setting's permission for us to observe and advise.
Yes. Everyone who works with your child from SEND Experts at Hand holds an enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check and has been through safer recruitment checks. They are also never on their own with your child — you will be present.
